Police Information Checks
What are Police Information Checks?
EWZSA (also known as EMSA West) requires all Volunteers to have a valid Police Information Check (PIC), including Vulnerable Sector Search on file with EMSA West. All confirmed Volunteers must complete a Police Information Check w/ Vulnerable Sector clearance before being approved to volunteer with EMSA West.
Volunteers Include: Board Of Directors, Community Soccer Coordinators, Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers
Purpose: To ensure to the best of our knowledge that vulnerable people are safe from victimization.
Police Information Checks including the Vulnerable Sector Check consists of a check/search of local police records (Edmonton Police Service) and surrounding jurisdictions to determine if any pattern of behaviour that may harm vulnerable persons has been identified. In order to provide the most accurate information the Applicant must be a resident of Edmonton or a surrounding jurisdiction that is authorized to do a Vulnerable Sector search.
Jurisdictions include:
Edmonton Police Service – residents within the City of Edmonton
RCMP Jurisdictions include: (for Residents of the surrounding areas listed below)
Spruce Grove
Stony Plain
Beaumont
Sherwood Park
St. Albert
Morinville
Fort Saskatchewan
Leduc
EMSA West will provide all volunteers with a link to the Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sectors forms. Volunteers residing in adjacent Communities will need to go in person to their local RCMP detachment to complete and submit the forms. When the Volunteer receives their results, it is their responsibility to download a PDF and forward a copy to EMSA West and to retain a copy for their records. Please note that the EPS and RCMP do NOT share this information with anyone other than the Applicant.
Once received by EMSA West, PIC clearances will be considered valid and in effect for a period of 3 years from the effective date on the PIC clearance certificate. PIC clearances previously required by other Organizations, that a Volunteer may submit to EMSA West, will be accepted only if the PIC clearance date is within one year preceding the submission to EMSA West. The 3-year validation starts from the date on the PIC certificate.
EMSA West reserves the right to deny any volunteer the opportunity to act as a volunteer (Bylaw 13.2)

Age-Specific Soccer Education
The Grassroots Coach Education Program has four workshops based on Stages 1, 2, 3, and 7 of the Long-Term Player Development Model. The first three workshops, Active Start, FUNdamentals, and Learn to Train, deal with soccer training and the importance of physical literacy for players up to 12 years of age.
The fourth workshop is called Soccer for Life and focuses on working with players aged 13 and older through to “masters soccer.” The Soccer for Life stage includes a wide array of participants who play for fun and fitness, those who enjoy recreational soccer, and those who prefer to play competitively but not at a high-performance level.

All Ages Multi-Sport Education
Coaches are also expected to complete multisport programs that equip them to provide the kids with an outstanding soccer experience.
Respect in Sport, Making Ethical Decisions, Making Head Way, and Emergency Action Plan provide coaches with the information they need as leaders of youth sports.
