2023 Alberta Concussion Awareness Day:

Alberta Concussion Awareness Day is quickly approaching – September 27, 2023, which falls within National Concussion Awareness Week (September 24, 2023, to October 30, 2023). Alberta shares a commitment with other provinces and territories to profile the importance of concussion awareness.

To better prepare you with the knowledge needed, we encourage everyone involved in sport, physical activity, and recreation to join in on creating greater public awareness about the tools available for prevention, detection, management, and support for those who have sustained a concussion.

Available resources:

  • Concussion: Promising Strategies for Prevention hosted by Mr. Ash Kolstad on Monday, September 25, 2023. Visit to register today.
  • Sport Medicine Council of Alberta –  concussion awareness page includes links to valuable educational resources for everyone.
  • A free online Concussion Course through the University of Calgary and University of Laval. The next course will be offered in January 2024. The course material will include up-to-date content from the 6th International Consensus on Concussion in Sport.
  • Free National Coaches Certification Program eLearning series called “Making Head Way”. This program aims to educate coaches about concussions and empower them to share their knowledge with others.

Let’s be concussion smart by spreading the word about the importance of concussion prevention and working towards a safer and more informed community.
