Uniforms
Jerseys/Uniforms
U4 – U7
EMSA West (U4/U5—West Zone Sponsor, U7—Tim’s Sponsor) gives children in these age categories a jersey and allows them to keep it. Due to the rule regarding matching shorts and socks, all soccer players are asked to wear black shorts and black socks.
Shin pads are mandatory for all players. Children without shin pads will not be allowed to participate in games or practices. Shin pads are worn under socks.
U9 – U19
In these age groups, children are issued jerseys or uniforms from the community they are playing for.
- Some communities charge a fee prior to the start of the season (approximately $20-$35) as the players keep their uniforms once the season is completed.
- Prior to receiving your son’s or daughter’s jerseys, some communities require a deposit cheque (amounts depend on the community) to be given to your coach, payable to that community.
- Upon returning the assigned player’s jerseys to your child’s coach during or at the end of the season, the equipment will then be returned to the community.
- If the jerseys are clean and in good condition, the player’s deposit cheque for the jerseys will be shredded.
- For any jerseys not returned by the last equipment return date or returned in unacceptable condition (i.e. unacceptable staining, torn, and or molded), a player’s deposit cheque will be cashed.
Please note: communities with jersey deposits find it more difficult to replace a jersey. Please care for and return your jersey.
Some communities do not provide goalkeeper gloves as part of their equipment. Keeper gloves, like shin pads, socks, soccer shoes, and shorts, are customized for each player’s needs and should be purchased by the parents for their children.
Please remember to wash your child’s jersey and other equipment regularly. Jerseys left in soccer bags do smell. For hygiene reasons, please remember to wash and air dry shin pads.
Equipment
Shin Pads

Shin pads are mandatory for all players.
Children without shin pads will not be allowed to participate in games or practices. Shin pads are worn under socks.
Water Bottles

All players should have their own labelled water bottle.
Eyeglasses

Eyeglasses are allowed ONLY if they are prescription lenses, made of plastic, and have non-shattering lenses.
Sunglasses are NOT permitted unless they are prescription lenses. Sport glasses and sport glass covers are permitted.
Jewellery

Jewellery (earrings, necklaces, etc.) is NOT allowed when playing soccer. FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) and the CSA (Canadian Soccer Association) are clear about this. Players cannot wear something that can hurt themselves or anyone else on the field.
Medical-Alert jewellery or clothing required by the player’s religion may be worn only if the referee deems it safe and does not give the player an unfair advantage. Medical-Alert jewellery can normally be made safe by wrapping it with tape, with the necessary information showing.
A player refusing to remove any type of jewelry at the request of the referee will not be permitted to play.
Casts/Splints and Athletic Braces

Hard casts (plaster) are NOT permitted – even if padded.
Soft Casts – if adequately padded will be allowed if the Referee approves it.
Braces are permitted – but if it is a hard brace or has edges – it must be padded.
If a player wears a cast or brace to intimidate or with intent to injure, they will be cautioned and sent off the field.
Head Covering or Hijab

The wearing of a sports-type hijab will be permitted upon a satisfactory pre-game inspection by the referee, as mandated by FIFA rule four. This rule states that all items of clothing or equipment other than basic equipment must be inspected by the referee and determined to be safe.
Other forms of hijab will also be permitted at the discretion of the referee, but only after a pre-game determination that the hijab does not pose a danger to the wearer or any other player.
